The setting then changes completely: vegetated walls, the constant sound of water, and that succession of falls that gives the place its name. Seven are visible, though the system holds more than a dozen depending on where you stop.<\/p><p>The route alternates walking on wet rock, short downclimbs and stretches with your feet in the water. Some pools are deep enough to jump into \u2014 provided somebody knows the day's depth, which varies with the flow. Do be wary, however, of people offering their services insistently in the car park: you are under no obligation to accept, and a certified guide is booked in advance.<\/p><p>The canyon lies roughly between 300 and 500 metres of altitude, above the Tamarind reservoir.<\/p>\n<h2>When to go<\/h2>\n<p>This is the most weather-dependent hike on the island. In the dry season (May to November) the flow is reasonable, the rocks less slippery and the outing thoroughly enjoyable.
