The town lives first and foremost for its residents, offering direct immersion in everyday Mauritian life.<\/p>\n<p>Founded by Mah\u00e9 de La Bourdonnais, the town is laid out on a colonial-era grid, set on the foundations of the earliest Dutch settlements.
