What is the Île d'Ambre kayak trip like?

This is the outing that suits families, and anyone who wants to see another face of the island without climbing. Seven kilometres of paddling on a sheltered lagoon, in a sit-on-top kayak, with a guide and equipment provided.

The half day runs three hours to three and a half; the full day adds lunch on the islet. No kayaking experience is required.

The interest lies in the mangrove channels that cut into the islet: vegetation you will not see anywhere else from land, and water of remarkable clarity.

The route

A short crossing, then the mangrove channels and stops ashore.

The launch

From Bain de Rosnay beach, near Poudre d'Or and Saint-Antoine, on the north-east coast.

02

The crossing

The islet lies a few hundred metres offshore, on a sheltered lagoon that makes the paddle accessible to everyone.

03

The mangrove

This is the most interesting part: the channels that cut into the island, dense vegetation and very clear water.

Stops ashore

The trip alternates paddling with breaks on the islet. A snack on the half day, lunch on the full-day option.
