Who is Signal Mountain for?
This is the hike we recommend when fitness, age or a pushchair rule out mountain paths. The climb follows a tarmac road, closed to traffic by a chain, with no technical section and no navigation problem.
You climb at your own pace and come back down the same way. Field reports range from an hour and a half to three hours round trip depending on pace.
It is also the only outing in this guide that starts from a city centre, and one of the few viewpoints on the island that shows the city rather than the wild: Port Louis, its harbour and its bay, seen from 323 metres.
